A Review of the Garmin Nuvi 855 Car GPS Unit
For people who have already been using GPS devices and looking to get an upgrade to a higher end product with better features, the Nuvi 855 by Garmin is very promising choice indeed. This device is very user-friendly, just like any other of the GPS units from Garmin and includes some very attractive features indeed. There are also options to choose from with the Garmin Nuvi 855, making it quite customisable in both price and its features.
One of the most attractive features included in this particular GPS unit when put next to its previous versions is the superb speech recognition ability or the voice command feature. This allows the owner to talk to the GPS unit self and give instructions regarding the address in the route to any given destination. Another device comes with the Garmin Nuvi 855 that will receive speech and enter it into the GPS device. This extra device can be mounted onto your steering wheel very easily. The ability to enter the information you need onto the Garmin Nuvi 855 by voice is a very attractive prospect indeed for many consumers, as it means greater road safety when using the device. Of course, the touchscreen is still there like the previous models and is still wide and clear. The graphical capabilities of the touchscreen of very high standard; clear crisp and bright.
Turns and directions can be seen in advance so the driver is prepared for them before they arrive. It’s a very accurate device and is also capable of showing the user the surrounding area with a very nice feature called the Birds Eye option. It is thinner and lighter than previous editions of this unit and marvellously easy to use thanks to the improved detailing on each map and the ability to scroll through the map using a finger.
As with a lot of other products from them, the volume on the Garmin Nuvi 855 is rather low and sometimes interference can be a problem when in big cities. The other slightly negative aspects to this device are that it doesn’t come with Bluetooth or indeed an off switch. It features a slide button so that you can switch it to standby mode, but the battery still used in this mode so be sure to take the battery out when the unit is not in use to ensure that it doesn’t die. Overall, the Garmin Nuvi 855 is a great tool for your car, and while it does have a couple of design flaws it is sure to give you and your family very accurate service when out on the road.
